Wilde is a man in his 40s who gained notoriety when he was discovered as a young child living in the woods of New Jersey’s Ramapo Mountains。 In The Match, Book #2 following The Boys from the Woods, Book #1, Wilde is back。 After trying to live a traditional life of domesticity, Wilde returns to his small “ecocapsule” home located in the same woods he was found living in decades before。 It’s time to finally find out the truth behind his abandonment。 After sending his DNA to a genealogy website, so Wilde is a man in his 40s who gained notoriety when he was discovered as a young child living in the woods of New Jersey’s Ramapo Mountains。 In The Match, Book #2 following The Boys from the Woods, Book #1, Wilde is back。 After trying to live a traditional life of domesticity, Wilde returns to his small “ecocapsule” home located in the same woods he was found living in decades before。 It’s time to finally find out the truth behind his abandonment。 After sending his DNA to a genealogy website, some possible answers to his mystery emerge。 After believing he has identified his biological father, another match is with a man who has gained fame on a reality TV show and saw his once stellar reputation destroyed on social media。 This possible relative has gone missing after seeking Wilde’s help。 Wilde finds himself investigating the disappearance。 A murder and the discovery of a mysterious vigilante group, formed to serve as judge and jury to punish the most serious offenders of online trolling, keep raising more and more questions as to who is behind it all。 And will Wilde ever learn who his parents are?Author Harlan Coben does a good job recapping Wilde’s history so it is not essential to have read Book #1 but I’d recommend it to get the full backstory。 There’s a strong group of supporting characters who have served as Wilde’s pseudo-family since he was found so many years before。 (Including favorite Hester Crimstein, her seventh appearance in a Coben book。) This support system is one of the strengths of the book as someone who seems so alone is anything but。 I enjoyed the unraveling of the mystery, which provided some enjoyable twists and turns。 If you’ve ever found yourself interested in taking a DNA test or have already started researching your family tree, you’ll find added appeal in the plot, as was the case for me。 And you might look at reality TV a little differently moving forward。 Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing | Hachette Book Group and Novel Suspects Insiders for the opportunity to read The Match in advance of its March 15, 2022 publication。Rated 4。25 stars。Review to be posted on MicheleReader。com。 。。。more

I'm a fan of Harlan Coben - his plotting is always great and his writing is just a lot of fun to read。I wasn't familiar with the two main crossover characters in this book (Wilde and Hester Crimstein) as I haven't read all of Coben's many books, but that didn't prevent me from understanding what was going on。 Match is the story of a guy with a VERY unusual backstory - he was found wandering in the woods as a child and never knew his parents。 After a DNA site gives him a possible match for a clos I'm a fan of Harlan Coben - his plotting is always great and his writing is just a lot of fun to read。I wasn't familiar with the two main crossover characters in this book (Wilde and Hester Crimstein) as I haven't read all of Coben's many books, but that didn't prevent me from understanding what was going on。 Match is the story of a guy with a VERY unusual backstory - he was found wandering in the woods as a child and never knew his parents。 After a DNA site gives him a possible match for a close relative, he's plunged into a very complicated world of DNA testing, reality TV, vigilante justice, and family drama。 The ending of this left me with a few questions。 I'm putting up a spoiler discussion post in case you have questions too (or can answer mine) so watch this space!Read more of my reviews on JenRyland。com! Harlan Coben knows how to tell a story and tell it entertainingly with lots of golden nuggets, twists and surprises。 After a couple of heavy reads and feeling the need for something more elevating, I turned to the master of great storytelling for an engrossing read, and he did not disappoint。The Match is the second book to feature Wilde, the man who as a young boy was discovered living a feral existence in the Ramapo mountains of New Jersey and who we first encountered in The Boy from the Woods。 Harlan Coben knows how to tell a story and tell it entertainingly with lots of golden nuggets, twists and surprises。 After a couple of heavy reads and feeling the need for something more elevating, I turned to the master of great storytelling for an engrossing read, and he did not disappoint。The Match is the second book to feature Wilde, the man who as a young boy was discovered living a feral existence in the Ramapo mountains of New Jersey and who we first encountered in The Boy from the Woods。 He made friends with a young boy from a nearby family and that family has been the only one he has been close to since then。 Wilde has no idea about his parentage or even where he came from。That’s about to change。 He submits his DNA to a database and gets back a match。 He makes contact and after some lapses in time he finds a message from his match that suggests his relative is in real trouble。 Having never revealed his identity, Wilde has to use the covert methods of Rola, his foster sister, to track him down。Harlan Coben gives us plenty of thrills and excitement in this quest for Wilde to find his family。 Along the way Wilde will have to deal with a world he neither knows nor understands – social media influencers, celebrity reality shows and the fleeting nature of fame; cancel culture and vigilante justice。It’s a brilliant, whirlwind ride in which Wilde comes close to having some of the closest relationships in his world destroyed and trust is breached, potentially fatally。I loved coming back to lawyer and Wilde’s honest friend, Hester Grimstein (the Judge Judy of her own show) and her law enforcement lover。 While Wilde tracks down his elusive relatives, he also has to tackle his own emotional distance and to handle the surprises that finally finding out about his family will deliver。 All this while solving a high profile disappearance and being accused of murder。The Match is classic Coben。 Highly entertaining, great characters, emotional investment and a truck load of suspense and surprises。 Wilde is a character you ache for; one you want to succeed and be happy。 Who can resist a good looking loner who is afraid to trust because he has never known a nurturing family love? This is an entertaining, exciting and engaging read, and as Wilde finally finds out where he came from, Coben hold out the possibility of a deeper emotional engagement for him, which leaves this reader very happy。 。。。more

Harlan Coben never disappoints。 Strong characters, fast-paced plot, several unexpected twists make this one of his best books yet, and that's saying a lot。 I literally could not put this down。 I read it in one setting (late into the night)。 Highly recommended - as all of his books are。 Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this advanced readers copy。 Harlan Coben never disappoints。 Strong characters, fast-paced plot, several unexpected twists make this one of his best books yet, and that's saying a lot。 I literally could not put this down。 I read it in one setting (late into the night)。 Highly recommended - as all of his books are。 Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this advanced readers copy。 。。。more

The Match is the second book by Harlan Coben to feature the protagonist Wilde。 This follow-up to The Boy from the Woods (2020)。 The Boy from the Woods is actually the Coben book I have liked the least。 Because of this, I was slightly hesitant to pick up The Match。 However, Coben definitely brought back the magic with this second installment in Wilde’s story。The Match is the fast-paced, action-packed thriller I expect from Harlan Coben, about a DNA match on an ancestry site that leads to uncovere The Match is the second book by Harlan Coben to feature the protagonist Wilde。 This follow-up to The Boy from the Woods (2020)。 The Boy from the Woods is actually the Coben book I have liked the least。 Because of this, I was slightly hesitant to pick up The Match。 However, Coben definitely brought back the magic with this second installment in Wilde’s story。The Match is the fast-paced, action-packed thriller I expect from Harlan Coben, about a DNA match on an ancestry site that leads to uncovered secrets and murder。 While The Match is a sequel, it can be read as a standalone。 Coben reintroduces the characters and their backstories well。 (Of course, I am not the best judge of this since I have read the previous book。)Everything I took issue with in The Boy from the Woods was addressed and made up for。 This time around, Wilde and the supporting characters are fully fleshed out and have some depth。 We finally find out the mystery of Wilde’s past, leaving me satisfied with that mystery no longer haunting me。 With the murders tied directly to Wilde and the enigma of his past, I was easily invested in getting to the bottom of them。The mysteries at the heart of The Match compelled me through the book, eagerly turning the pages to find out what happened next。 There were many twists and turns。 While you may or may not deduce the murderer’s identity, you will still be surprised by the reveal and the ending。 I love when I fail to guess what is going to happen。 The Match fulfilled this, and left me a very happy reader。I love that Coben has some characters that reappear throughout his books, including The Match – like the forever sassy lawyer Hester Crimstein。 It is like a little treat for fans and avid readers of his books。 Still, if this is your first book by Coben, you are not at a loss。My only criticism of The Match was that the ending felt a bit rushed and slightly disjointed。 There was one plot element that felt a bit like a loose end, enough that I went back to see if I missed something。 None of this ruined the book for me; I just think it could have been marginally smoother with events better tying together。Overall, I really enjoyed The Match and was happy to see Coben redeem Wilde’s story with a book that does it justice。 I highly recommend this book whether you have read The Boy from the Woods or not。Note: I received gifted copy of this book from the publisher, Grand Central Publishing。 Regardless, I always provide a fair and honest review。 。。。more

This followup to The Boy from the Woods has definitely become my favorite Harlan Coben novel。 He weaves together a story that uses so many relevant themes, including DNA testing, reality show "influencers", and social media, and gloms them together into a page-turning mystery thriller。 I kept looking for time to read throughout the day so I could find out the story conclusion。 The ending is tied up very well (which to me is usually a thriller's downfall) and I never suspected the ending。 If you This followup to The Boy from the Woods has definitely become my favorite Harlan Coben novel。 He weaves together a story that uses so many relevant themes, including DNA testing, reality show "influencers", and social media, and gloms them together into a page-turning mystery thriller。 I kept looking for time to read throughout the day so I could find out the story conclusion。 The ending is tied up very well (which to me is usually a thriller's downfall) and I never suspected the ending。 If you have enjoyed any of Coben's past novels, then this one is a must-read。 Huge thanks to #GrandCentralPub for sending me an early copy in exchange for my honest review! The Match is a great beach read。 It’s a page-turner whose plot revolves around discoveries made on a DNA match website, a reality show scandal, and a secret society punishing cyberbullies。 Not gonna lie, it was satisfying to read about online trolls getting their comeuppance。 There were also several twists to The Match that I didn’t see coming and the plot raced toward a satisfying conclusion。

Harlan Coben brings back some of my favorite characters from The Boy from the Woods, Wilde, attorney Hester Crimstein, and Hester’s grandson, Matthew, in The Match, a disturbing novel that takes on social media。 Wilde, found in the woods thirty years earlier, is still looking for answers as to his identity and past。He starts with a DNA test, and identifies a man who appears to be his father。 He meets with him, but the answers aren’t satisfying。 They raise more questions。 His attempt to reach a s Harlan Coben brings back some of my favorite characters from The Boy from the Woods, Wilde, attorney Hester Crimstein, and Hester’s grandson, Matthew, in The Match, a disturbing novel that takes on social media。 Wilde, found in the woods thirty years earlier, is still looking for answers as to his identity and past。He starts with a DNA test, and identifies a man who appears to be his father。 He meets with him, but the answers aren’t satisfying。 They raise more questions。 His attempt to reach a second person with DNA connections ends oddly when the person deletes their account。 Although Wilde hasn’t shown a great deal of curiosity in the past, now he can’t let it rest。 With help from Hester and Wilde’s foster sister who owns a security firm, he tracks down the person who disappeared, only to discover they’ve disappeared in the real world as well。 Now, he really won’t let go。Wilde’s search crosses paths, in just a minor way, with an online group known as Boomerang。 The members have one purpose, to punish those who are using social media and the Internet improperly。 The secret members identify people behind bots that threaten or bully other users so much that reputations and lives are ruined。 Boomerang has various levels of punishment for those bullies。 Then, one of the members of Boomerang goes rogue。Without spoiling the book, I can say that Coben addresses reality shows, cyberbullying, online DNA testing, and influencers。 It’s a fascinating, but disturbing book because it exposes so many Internet traps。 Those elements are intriguing。 But, if you’re a reader who reads for character, as I do, it’s a treat to catch up with Wilde and Hester。 I have to admit I never would have expected Wilde to submit his DNA。 And, that leads to all kinds of trouble in this fast-paced, enjoyable suspense novel。 。。。more

Harlan Coben always has a good story to tell and this sequel to “The Boy from the Woods” is no exception。 Wilde, abandoned as a child, decides to look into his family by registering his DNA on a ancestry website。 Of course, as in all books by this author, this does not turn out to be a simple matter and he gets caught up in a series of murders as well as the disappearance of a cousin who is a Tv reality star。The DNA sections of the plot were quite complicated to understand and the two strands of Harlan Coben always has a good story to tell and this sequel to “The Boy from the Woods” is no exception。 Wilde, abandoned as a child, decides to look into his family by registering his DNA on a ancestry website。 Of course, as in all books by this author, this does not turn out to be a simple matter and he gets caught up in a series of murders as well as the disappearance of a cousin who is a Tv reality star。The DNA sections of the plot were quite complicated to understand and the two strands of Wilde’s search did turn out to be interesting but unrelated in the end。Wilde is a good hero, damaged but very authentic and keen to do the right thing for everyone。 He holds a torch for Laila, the widow of his best friend and this aspect of his life is explored further in the book。 I liked the way that Wilde gradually started to form closer relationships as the story progressed and I was really hoping he would find out more about his real family and the reason for his abandonment。I didn’t really warm to the reality Tv stars who featured in the plot but I thought it was a clever way to examine this unpleasant aspect of modern life and to emphasise the dangers of being hounded on social media if you decide to go down the reality star route。 I loved Hester Crimstein, Wilde’s elderly lawyer friend and mother figure! She’s a feisty woman who never seems to slow down and she even has a love interest in this book which is a definite plus; she’s a really great role model for the older women! I’d certainly be interested in reading a further book about Wilde’s journey if the author decides to write one。All in all an enjoyable read and another treat for Harlan Coben fans。Thanks to NetGalley and Century books for my arc。 。。。more

It is not a close relative, but probably something like a second cousin。 But he reaches out and then goes along with his life, which is mainly lived "off the grid", so it is some time before he realizes the person has responded, but months ago。 When he tries to get back in touch, he only meets dead ends。 Curious, he relates the story to his group of friends and someone thinks they may know who this is, but that person has gone missing and is possibly/probably dead。I am not going to spoil the story, but it is a good one! Well I`m late to the party here as this was my first Harlan Coben read and it certainly didnt disappoint。The second in the series based on a man called Wilde who, as a child was abandoned and left in a forest to fend for himself, eventually being found after a few years amazingly surviving on his own。Here we have Wilde seeking out his real family as he gets a match on a DNA website to a possible relative。 This leads him into a world of intrigue, secrets, the power of social media, the hunger for Well I`m late to the party here as this was my first Harlan Coben read and it certainly didnt disappoint。The second in the series based on a man called Wilde who, as a child was abandoned and left in a forest to fend for himself, eventually being found after a few years amazingly surviving on his own。Here we have Wilde seeking out his real family as he gets a match on a DNA website to a possible relative。 This leads him into a world of intrigue, secrets, the power of social media, the hunger for fame and the ease with which it can be taken away and someone "cancelled" and ultimately murder。I loved loved loved this one。 The characters here are fantastically written。 Wilde is a fascinating character and I cant think of one character in the book that wasnt very well written。 The story also is beautifully paced with plenty of twist and turns along the way。 This book never get boring。This can definitely be read as a stand alone as I did。 So impressed with it as I was, I immediately looked for the first in the series only for my wife to tell me she had a copy of the paperback。 Result! As I said Im late to the party with Coben but if this is the standard of his writing and storytelling then I will certainly be seeking out his back catalogue。An easy 5 star review for me。 Get a copy of this, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride。Thanks to the publisher for the ARC through Netgalley。 。。。more

So many twists and turns, Coben keeps you guessing right up to the end。 We meet some interesting "ripped from the headlines" people, along with the regulars of the Wilde series, in this very of-the-moment story。 It's got reality TV, sex scandals, betrayal, dark web dealings, Hester, and Wilde - good read! A simple attempt to unravel his past involves Wilde in an unforeseen domino effect of death and destruction。 A satisfying thriller with some of my favourite Coben characters。 Not quite Marlon and Win but close enough。

Thank you Netgalley for this Arc!Harlan Coben is a masterful storyteller and this was another terrific read。 The Match carries on the tale of Wilde。 Wilde is a man with a mysterious past but in this sequel the threads of his history have begun to be pulled apart。 I loved the revelations about this character and the connections he seems to be embracing more in this book。 Of course, this was also a complete thrill-ride full of suspence and action!
